Nervous patients

We understand dental anxiety, and we plan for it

Dental anxiety is real, common, and nothing to be embarrassed about. A lot of the people who walk through our door have not seen a dentist in years, often because of one bad experience a long time ago. We go slowly, we explain everything before we do it, and you stay in control the whole way through. Agree a signal with us and we stop the moment you use it.

How we make appointments easier

Our practice has a wheelchair-accessible entrance, accessible and gender-neutral toilets, and we are proud to be an LGBTQ-friendly and transgender-safe space. Everyone is welcome here, and our team will always help you feel comfortable.

Unhurried appointments so nothing feels rushed
Everything explained first, with no surprises and no jargon
A stop signal you control, used the moment you need a break
A calm, spa-like practice that does not feel like a clinical dental surgery
Aftercare that checks in on you, including comfort care bags where relevant

“For someone who is frightened of the dentist I was put at ease and was even able to relax.”

Our team

Meet the team who will look after you

Nerves ease when you see the same familiar faces. Dr Michael Boulis is known for taking his time and explaining every step, and Donatella, who patients mention again and again for her kindness, is usually the ones welcoming you in and checking on you afterwards. You are a person here, not a slot in a diary.

“I’m usually scared of the dentist but Michael really put me at ease and I’ve booked again for 6 months time!”

Sedation

Sedation for nervous patients

For patients who need a little more support to get through treatment, we can arrange sedation. Please note that sedation is provided by an independent, external sedation professional (Ivy Sedation) who attends the practice, rather than by our own team; it is a separate, specialist third-party service. We will talk you through whether it is suitable and what it involves before anything is arranged.

Why choose us

Why nervous patients choose Bella Dental

Time and patience, never a production line
A spa-like setting designed to feel calm, not clinical
You stay in control with a stop signal we always honour
Gentle aftercare, including care bags and a check-in call
A free, no-pressure chat first so your first visit need not involve any treatment at all
Ready when you are

Start with a chat, not a drill

You do not have to dive straight into treatment. Book a free consultation if you are thinking about implants, aligners or cosmetic work, or a gentle check-up to simply get back on track. Tell us what is worrying you, and we will take it from there, at your pace.

Good to know

Frequently asked questions about nervous patient care and sedation

Everything patients usually ask before starting their treatment. Can't see your question? We're happy to talk it through.

I haven’t been to a dentist in years. Will you judge me?

Never. We see it all the time and there is no lecture waiting for you, just a plan to get you comfortable and healthy again, at a pace that suits you.

Is the sedation carried out by your own team?

No. Sedation is provided by an independent third-party professional (Ivy Sedation) who visits the practice. We arrange it and support you throughout, but it is a separate specialist service.

Can I bring someone with me?

Of course. Many nervous patients feel more at ease with a friend or family member alongside them, and that is absolutely fine.

What happens if I need to stop partway through?

You stop. We agree a signal before we start and honour it immediately, every time. You are always in control.

Do you charge more to treat nervous patients?

No. Taking our time with anxious patients is simply how we work. Any sedation arranged through the third-party provider is priced separately and explained fully in advance.
