Veneers

Let’s talk smile-enhancing veneers…

Dental veneers are the ultimate way to iron out the imperfections you’d rather not show off. Made from fine porcelain shells, veneers cover the visible surfaces of your teeth, giving your smile a balanced new look.

We use veneers to revitalise smiles, hiding stains, chips, and cracks. Dental veneers rebalance teeth, reshaping them and closing gaps to improve the overall uniformity of your smile.

What to expect

What to expect when you choose dental veneers

Every veneer journey begins with an initial consultation. We want to understand your motivations for getting veneers so your new smile meets your expectations. After examining your teeth, we’ll plan the process.

We’ll begin by removing a fine layer of dental enamel from your teeth. This ensures your smile remains well-proportioned and balanced while helping the veneers form a lasting bond. Next, we’ll take the impressions our lab will use to craft your veneers.

Once the veneers are prepared, we can simply bond them to your teeth. Our meticulous approach ensures your veneers align perfectly, leaving you with an immaculate new smile. All that remains is for you to enjoy its appearance and the confidence it brings.

From the moment you walk into reception you are greeted warmly, with a smile and Professionalism. For someone who is frightened of the dentist I was put at ease and was even able to relax. Implant treatment I cannot recommend highly enough. Michael knows his stuff and talks you through everything. Check up and hygienist experience was also first classI highly recommend.

Dental veneers questions.

Everything patients usually ask before starting their treatment. Can't see your question? We're happy to talk it through.

Are veneers a permanent treatment?

Veneers are considered a permanent treatment because we need to remove a very thin layer of enamel (typically 0.5mm to 0.7mm) from the front of your teeth to accommodate them. Once this is done, you’ll always need some form of restoration on those teeth, whether that’s replacement veneers in the future or another type of restoration. However, with proper care, high-quality porcelain veneers can last 10-15 years or even longer. As a specialist prosthodontist, Michael ensures patients fully understand this commitment before proceeding with treatment.

Will veneers look fake or obvious?

Not when they’re designed and fitted by a specialist prosthodontist. Modern porcelain veneers, when properly planned and executed, should be virtually indistinguishable from natural teeth. We have exceptional control over every aspect: shade, translucency, shape, surface texture, and how they interact with light. You’ll actually try in your veneers before they’re permanently bonded, and we can make any necessary adjustments. Michael’s goal is always to enhance your natural beauty rather than creating an obviously artificial appearance.

How many veneers will I need?

This depends on your smile line, your aesthetic goals, and which teeth are visible when you speak and smile. Most commonly, patients have veneers placed on their upper front six to eight teeth. Some people opt for just their front four teeth, whilst others may choose to have their entire upper arch treated for a complete smile transformation. During your consultation, Michael will analyse your smile and discuss the optimal number of veneers for your individual case. Sometimes less is more, and Michael’s specialist training means he’ll recommend what’s truly best for you.

What’s the difference between porcelain and composite veneers?

Porcelain veneers are precision-crafted in a specialist dental laboratory and offer superior strength, stain resistance, and lifelike aesthetics. They typically last 10-15 years or longer. Composite veneers are sculpted directly onto your teeth chairside (similar to bonding), can be completed in one visit, and are less expensive, but they’re more susceptible to staining and chipping and generally last around 5-7 years. As a specialist prosthodontist, Michael typically recommends porcelain veneers for their durability and superior aesthetics, but composite can be appropriate for certain cases or as a provisional option.

Will I experience sensitivity after having veneers fitted?

Some temporary sensitivity to hot and cold is quite normal and usually settles within a few weeks. Because we remove a thin layer of enamel during the preparation stage, your teeth may feel sensitive initially. We’ll provide you with desensitising toothpaste and advice on managing any discomfort. In Michael’s experience, most patients adapt quickly, and any sensitivity becomes negligible within a month or so. If sensitivity persists beyond this, we’ll review your case and take any necessary action.

Can veneers correct crooked or misaligned teeth?

Veneers can mask mild to moderate misalignment and create the appearance of straighter teeth, which is sometimes called “instant orthodontics.” However, if you have significant crowding, rotation, or bite problems, orthodontic treatment would likely be the better long-term solution, either on its own or before veneers. As a specialist prosthodontist, Michael will always recommend the option that provides the healthiest, longest-lasting result. Sometimes this means straightening your teeth with clear aligners first, then placing veneers for the perfect aesthetic finish.

What if I only want to improve the colour of my teeth?

If your teeth are healthy, well-shaped, and properly aligned, and you simply want them to be whiter, professional tooth whitening might be all you need, and it’s far more conservative and cost-effective than veneers. Michael will always explore the least invasive option first. However, if whitening won’t achieve your desired result, perhaps you have severe staining from medications like tetracycline, or intrinsic discolouration from trauma, then veneers can provide you with the exact shade you want whilst also improving the shape and proportions of your teeth.

How should I care for my veneers?

Care for your veneers just as you would your natural teeth. Brush twice daily with a non-abrasive toothpaste, floss once daily, and attend regular hygienist appointments. Avoid biting into extremely hard foods with your veneered front teeth, and definitely don’t use your teeth to open packaging or bite your nails. If you grind your teeth at night (bruxism), it’s essential that you wear the protective splint we’ll provide, as grinding can damage even the strongest porcelain. With proper care and regular check-ups, your veneers should last well over a decade. Michael has many patients whose veneers are still performing beautifully after 15 years or more.

How much do veneers cost at Bella Dental?

Porcelain veneers start from £950 per tooth. Composite bonding veneers are also available as a more affordable alternative. We provide a full quote after your consultation.

Can veneers be removed or reversed?

Porcelain veneers require a small amount of enamel removal and are considered a permanent treatment. Composite bonding is minimally invasive and can be reversed if needed.

Do veneers stain like natural teeth?

Porcelain veneers are highly stain-resistant and maintain their colour for many years. Composite veneers may discolour over time and can be polished or replaced to refresh their appearance.

How long does a veneer consultation take?

An initial veneer consultation takes around 30-45 minutes. We discuss your goals, examine your teeth, and may use digital smile design to preview your potential results.
