True Smile Stability
Implanted dentures rely on the support of a series of titanium implants embedded into your jaw. Just like traditional dentures, you can unclip them for cleaning. Unlike traditional dentures, they’re clipped firmly to implants held by your jaws.
The non-slip foundation dental implants offer is the next best thing to real tooth roots. Each implant is lightweight and fuses with your bone for extra confidence.

Implanted dentures give your smile the full support of dental implants with the convenience of dentures. The ability to unclip your dentures makes them easier to clean — improving the health of your smile in the process.
Let’s Make Your New Smile
Before placing implants and creating your custom dentures, we’ll assess your gums and jaws to see if they can support your new smile. We’ll do this by taking X-rays of your jaw. During your consultation, we’ll discuss what to expect and answer your questions.
Next, our implant dentist will turn your treatment plan into reality. After giving you a local anaesthetic for maximum comfort, we’ll place your implants.
The final touch will be to place your bespoke dentures. Designed for you, our lab artisans’ attention to detail will give you a lifelike and confident new smile.

What are implant-retained dentures?
Implant-retained dentures (also called overdentures) are removable dentures that clip onto or attach to dental implants rather than simply resting on your gums. Typically, two to four implants are placed in your jaw, and the denture is designed with special attachments that connect to these implants. This provides significantly better stability and retention than conventional dentures whilst remaining removable for cleaning. It’s an excellent middle-ground solution for patients who want more security than traditional dentures can offer but aren’t ready for a fixed solution like All-on-4.
How are implant-retained dentures different from traditional dentures?
The key difference is stability and retention. Traditional dentures rely entirely on suction and the shape of your gums to stay in place, which often means slipping, clicking, and difficulty eating certain foods. Implant-retained dentures snap onto implants, providing dramatically improved stability. You’ll be able to eat more comfortably and confidently without worrying about your denture moving. Additionally, because the implants stimulate your jawbone, you’ll experience less bone loss compared to traditional dentures, which helps maintain your facial structure over time.
How many implants do I need for an implant-retained denture?
This depends on whether you’re having a denture for your upper or lower jaw, and the quality of your bone. Lower jaw dentures typically require a minimum of two implants for adequate retention, though four provides even better stability. Upper jaw dentures usually need at least four implants due to the softer bone quality in the upper jaw and the larger surface area. During your consultation, Michael will assess your individual situation and recommend the optimal number of implants for your needs and budget.
Can I remove my implant-retained denture myself?
Yes, that’s one of the defining features. You remove the denture daily for cleaning, just as you would with a traditional denture. The attachments require a bit of firm, deliberate pressure to unclip the denture from the implants, so it won’t come loose accidentally whilst you’re eating or speaking, but you’ll quickly get used to removing and replacing it. This removability makes cleaning much easier than with fixed implant solutions, and also means that if any adjustments or repairs are needed to the denture, we can address these without requiring surgery.
How do I clean and maintain my implant-retained denture?
You’ll need to clean both your denture and the implant attachments daily. Remove your denture after meals and brush it with a soft denture brush and non-abrasive cleaner. Never use regular toothpaste as it’s too abrasive. The implants and attachments in your mouth should be cleaned with a soft toothbrush and the gum tissue gently massaged. You can soak your denture overnight in a denture cleaning solution. The attachments that clip onto the implants will wear over time (typically every 12-18 months) and will need replacing. This is a simple, inexpensive procedure we can do in one short appointment. Regular check-ups and professional cleanings are essential for long-term success.
How much do implant-retained dentures cost?
The cost varies depending on how many implants you need and whether we’re treating one or both jaws. As a guide, a lower jaw implant-retained denture typically starts from around £4,000-£6,000, whilst an upper jaw usually ranges from £6,000-£8,000. This is significantly more than conventional dentures but considerably less than a fixed solution like All-on-4. During your consultation, Michael will examine your mouth, discuss your needs and expectations, and provide you with a detailed, personalised quote. We also offer flexible payment plans to help make treatment more manageable.
What are the advantages of implant-retained dentures over All-on-4?
The main advantages are cost and ease of cleaning. Implant-retained dentures typically cost £8,000-£15,000 for both jaws, whereas All-on-4 can cost £15,000-£25,000 per jaw. Because you can remove the denture, cleaning is much more straightforward. Some patients also feel psychologically more comfortable with something they can remove rather than having fixed teeth. However, All-on-4 provides a more tooth-like experience. It’s completely fixed, offers better chewing efficiency, and there’s no palate coverage. The choice depends on your priorities, budget, and expectations, and Michael will help you understand which option is best for your individual circumstances.
Will having implants placed affect how I wear my current dentures?
In most cases, you’ll be able to continue wearing your existing dentures whilst your implants heal, though they may need to be temporarily relined or adjusted to ensure they don’t put pressure on the healing implants. Once your implants have integrated with your bone (typically 8-12 weeks), we’ll modify your existing denture or fabricate a new one with the special attachments that clip onto your implants. Some patients prefer to have a new denture made at this stage to ensure optimal aesthetics and function, whilst others are happy to convert their existing denture if it’s in good condition. Michael will discuss your options during your consultation.
